● India ranks very high in the list of countries with a serious malaria burden. In 2018 alone nearly 4 lakh cases of malaria and 85 deaths due to the disease were  reported in the country, according to data from the National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme. ● WHO pegged death alone at nearly 17,000 in 2017, India has one of the worst country-malaria-burden in the world. ● Questions are repeatedly asked about the veracity of the Indian data, with some reports suggesting India may be recording just 8% of the actual number of malaria cases.
